| Silver Oxide Cell Price Revision |
In response to the increased cost of raw materials, Hitachi Maxell has decided to raise the price of
silver oxide cells for corporations and dealers by up to 40% effective April 1, 2006.
Recently, prices of major raw materials such as steel, nonferrous metals and chemicals have been pushed up owing to greater demand, mainly in China. At the same time, the price of silver, which is the essential material in silver oxide cells, continues to rise dramatically owing to its potential as a financial commodity, and now stands at more than double the price it was in 2003.
Under such circumstances, Maxell has endeavored to rationalize operations by improving productivity and reducing management expenditure. However, it has become difficult to unilaterally absorb this cost increase, and the company has therefore decided to raise the wholesale price of silver oxide cells.
We undertake to step up our efforts to reduce costs and continue to supply products that meet the standards our customers have come to expect from Maxell. Thank you for your understanding.
