Q:What should I do if I accidentally drop a computer tape?
A: Check the tape cartridge to see if it has been damaged. Also check whether it rattles or makes an unusual sound when shaken.
If you find any problems, contact our customer service center.
Q:How should I store and maintain computer tapes?
A: 1) Controlling temperature and humidity
Each computer tape has particular usage and storage conditions. A computer tape's life will be shortened if it is left in direct sunlight, or used in areas of high humidity, high or extremely low temperature, or is subject to a rapid change in temperature. Use and store computer tapes properly.

  2) Avoid magnetic fields and dust
Shield computer tapes from strong magnetic fields and dust. Data might be erased if a cartridge is placed near magnetized items such as cathode-ray tubes, transformers and speakers. Dust might also cause problems. A cartridge might be damaged by being left out of its storage case or inside a media drive for a long time.

  3) Clean the media drive regularly
Using a media drive with a dirty head might cause data problems, so regularly clean the drive. When the media drive is turned on, its built-in fan might cause small amounts of dust to enter the drive. Clean the media drive before use, especially after a few days' interval.

  4) Changing media
The life of each computer tape depends on the way it is used and stored, as well as the condition of the media drive. Replace computer tapes to suit as required.

Q:How should I care for computer tapes during transportation?
A: Avoid rapid changes in temperature and humidity. After transportation, do not use the cartridges for at least 24 hours to allow them to acclimatize.
Q:How long do computer tapes last?
A: Based on our acceleration tests, computer tapes can be stored for more than 20 years. However, we recommend that cartridges be changed every 10 years.
Q:Are computer tapes affected by X-rays?
A: Magnetic storage media are not affected by X-rays.
Q:What is data compression?
A: Data compression is a technique to reduce the size of data.
There are two ways to compress data: lossless and "lossy." When using lossless compression, compressed data does not lose any of its original information and can be completely uncompressed. The data-compression rate is low, and the size of data is reduced by half to one-third of its original capacity. This is the standard data compression method used by computers. By reducing the data size of each file, you can save disk space, sending time and sending/receiving costs. When using lossy compression, the data losses some of its information as the compressed data cannot be completely uncompressed. This type of compression is mainly used to reduce the size of image-related data, as the compression rate is high. There are two types of lossy compression: JPEG, which is used for still pictures, and MPEG, which is used for movies. Such compressed data cannot be recompressed.
Q:What information should I include when I send computer tapes to a reference service?
A: 1) The type of media and specifications
2) Product name/model
3) Type of trouble
4) Detailed information
  1. Do you want to protect the data stored on the problematic computer tape? (Can data be overwritten?)
  2. Whether we are permitted to conduct a destructive inspection. (Cartridge cannot be reused)
  3. Do you want us to return the problematic computer tape or do you want replacements?
  4. About how long did you use the problematic computer tape?
  5. Name of your backup software, including manufacturer, drive, including manufacturer, and operating system.
  6. How long have you been using the media drive?
  7. How often do you clean the media drive?
  8. Does the same trouble occur when you use other media with the same drive?
  * When we cannot confirm 1, 2 and 3 above, we will contact you for confirmation before proceeding.
* For a quick response, please provide the information listed above.
